Far Out! Tour to Walgett

Dharriwaa Elders Group and Walgett Public Library

Last month, Indigenous Services team members Kirsten Thorpe and Nathan Sentance met with Jodi-Anne Hunt, Wendy Fernando, Thomas Morgan, and Leon Winters of the Dharriwaa Elders Group in Walgett.

This meeting was a great opportunity for the Library to share some of the Indigenous language material pertaining to Walgett that is held in the State Library’s collection and talk about the Rediscovering Indigenous Languages Website, which will be launched in late November.  The website will be an exciting tool that will make historical Indigenous language material held in the library more accessible, especially for those in communities far away from Sydney.

Keep an eye out on this Tumblr page for more details on the Rediscovering Indigenous Languages website.

Whilst in Walgett, we also popped in to visit the staff at the Walgett Public Library. The Library was hosting the Walgett Art Group Exhibition by local artists (pictured).
