Making connections-Yuwaalaraay Language Centre
Last week, two staff members of the Indigenous Service Branch, along with one staff member of the Learning Services Branch, from the State Library NSW visited St Joseph’s Catholic School at Walgett. This visit was part of the Far Out program, which is program where staff members of the State Library NSW visit regional NSW schools and connect school children with the State Library and its collection
During the visit, the Indigenous Service Branch staff members got a chance to check out the fantastic Yuwaalaraay language centre at St Joseph’s, and have a chat with community language teacher John “JB” Brown. This was an awesome opportunity for Indigenous Services Branch to see a great Indigenous language initiative, as well as talk about the upcoming Rediscovering Indigenous Languages website and how it may assist initiatives like this.
