Out of the Vaults: Bayala

Interested in Indigenous languages? As part of the Sydney Festival Indigenous Services at the State Library is hosting three Out of the Vaults: Bayala talks. The last will be held this Saturday 28 January

Out of the Vaults is a series of talks where we bring out the Library’s treasures (usually kept in storage) and showcase them for everyone to see! Our January Out of the Vaults: Bayala is based around the Sydney language. See Aboriginal language lists from the 1800s and hear fascinating tales of the Aboriginal people who shared their language with European settlers. Find out about Cora Gooseberry, Queen of Sydney & Botany whose original breastplate is held by the Library and see a portrait of Ricketty Dick who charged the colonists a toll to travel on his land.

Our Saturday session of Out of the Vaults: Bayala is sold out but if you want to know more about the Sydney language you can contact Indigenous Services
