Transcribing our language material

19/01/2015

A sample of the Rediscovering Indigenous Languages collection items have been made available as a trial on the Library's transcription tool.

These items are written mostly in diary or journal format, and contain general information about Aboriginal people and communities, including references to language.  In making these items accessible, we will be developing a quality assurance workflow that will seek feedback from experts where appropriate.

We are still in the process of consulting with communities about the collection items, and will plan to release more material as the project develops.

We are keen to seek the input of communities, or language specialists to transcribe more detailed linguistic materials and word lists. For now there is a sample of collection items available for viewing and we are keen to find individuals or communities who would like to assist us in transcribing these items.

If you would like to get involved or provide any feedback please contact the Indigenous Services team.
